In the Field

Freddy Scott & Wendy Wasman in the Beech Creek Library

On May 20, I visited the Beech Creek Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve, in Alliance, Ohio, where volunteer and retired librarian Freddy Scott is creating a library from scratch. Freddy and I had been bouncing ideas off each other via phone and email, so it was very rewarding to see the library in person. Beech Creek is a beautiful place, with a butterfly house, the "Amazing Garden Plant Exploratorium," which features lots of hands-on educational activities, and hiking trails. When completed, the visitor center will include a gift shop, classroom, library, and meeting rooms. The newly-completed wildlife observation deck off the back of the visitor center offers beautiful views of the surrounding trees and gardens. I highly recommend a trip to Beech Creek - it's only 90 minutes from Cleveland!
