Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Thursday: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM

These hours are subject to change, so feel free to check with me via email (wwasman@cmnh.org) or phone (x3222) if you need my assistance.

NEW DVDs:

The Library is starting to build a
collection of DVDs, which will be available for one-week loans. As of this writing, we have Tapped and King Corn. Tapped is an inspiring and eye-opening look at the bottled water industry. King Corn provides a similarly unflinching view into our fast-food nation, where "one ultra-industrial, pesticide-laden, heavily-subsidized commodity dominates the food pyramid from top to bottom - corn." More DVDs are on the way. Thank you to everyone who made suggestions of titles.

NEW JOURNALS:

After a hiatus of several years, the Library has re-subscribed to Herpetological Review. We have filled in the missing years of this important title, so we now have a complete run of the journal from 1967 to the present.

Beginning with the December 2010 issue,
the Library has also re-subscribed to Scientific American. Reading this monthly journal is a great way to keep up with developments in science and technology. The website is also chock-full of the latest news in energy & sustainability, evolution, health, mind & brain, space, and other headline-making news in all areas of science. Check it out, but please don't take the latest issue out of the Library so that others may enjoy it!

The mission of the National Center for Science Education is to defend the teaching of evolution in the public schools. They publish a bimonthly journal titled Reports of the National Center for Science Education. The Library now subscribes to the NCSE Reports. The print version of the Reports contains brief summaries of articles, features, and book reviews; the full-text of these items will appear online. Each printed issue provides a complete citation for the online material and a URL to link directly to the items. Connect to the publications page of the NCSE website for more information. Thanks to the generosity of Clyde Simpson, the Library also has back issues of the Reports from 1997 to the present.

NEW BOOKS:

Hot off the press from Germany is Morphology, Phylogeny and Paleobiogeography of Fossil Fishes, a volume of papers honoring Professor Meemann Chang for her contributions to the study of paleoichthyology and early vertebrate evolution. The Museum's Gary L. Jackson, Preparator in the Vertebrate Paleontology department, contributed to a chapter in the book. You can read more about the book here. Better yet, come on up to the Library!

Moving from fossil fishes to dinosaurs, the Library welcomes New Perspectives on Horned Dinosaurs, edited by Dr. Michael J. Ryan, Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology. This impressive book presents the latest research on all aspects of the horned dinosaurs, including descriptions of newly identified species. The book also contains a CD-ROM supplement.
